1933 - the first drive in movie theatre

In New Jersey during 1933, Richard Hollingshead, patented the idea of a drive-in movie after seeing his mother's discomfort sitting in a regular movie theatre seat.

By their 50s and 60s heyday there were over 4,000 drive-in theatres across the United States.
