More rain is scheduled for the Nelson region after they were hit with what the city mayor says has been a one-in-100 year event. More than 200 homes in Nelson were evacuated after days of heavy rain, and a state of emergency is in place for Nelson Tasman and the West Coast.
With roads either washed away, or covered in slips, let's hope that the rain soon goes away and the clean up can begin in earnest before too many more are affected.
Fingers crossed Nelson can quickly return to happier times, such as half a century ago when the 13th International Vintage Car Rally was held at Richmond, Nelson in February 1972. A set of commemorative stamps were issued to celebrate the event, one of which you can see alongside this post. This stamp features a 1924 Chrysler at Paekakariki Hill, another features the Austin 7 that we have also recently mentioned. How many of our members remember going to the rally?
So, all the best Nelson, and hopefully you're back on the road soon.
